It was Thursday last period, which was reserved for what Miss Rao called “electioneering”. Everyone’s posters were up on the wall.

Sona put up her Elephant poster and wondered if she too should have come up with a slogan.

“Now you’re allowed to talk to your classmates on their own or in groups,” said Miss Rao.

“You should vote for me,” said Sona to a group of girls at the front. “It’s the only way to stop Pradeep winning.”

Some of the girls nodded. Others didn’t say anything.

Sona stole glances at Joy and Pradeep from time to time. Joy was talking earnestly to some classmates with a notebook in her hand, Renu by her side. Pradeep was sitting on a table, talking to a group of boys and girls.
